ABOUT ME
Passionate, Experienced, Versatile
Hello everyone! I am excited about the opportunity to work with you! Below is a little bit about myself.
Earning a B.A. (Music major, French minor), I graduated summa cum laude from Spelman College and was inducted into several honor societies (e.g. Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key National Honor Society, Mortarboard). While in college, I earned a teacher’s certificate in piano performance at a private conservatory in Paris, France. I then earned my J.D., graduating in the top 1/3 of my law school class at Western New England University School of Law.
I passed the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure in the following subjects: reading,
writing and music.
As a substitute music teacher at an elementary school, I designed a rigorous curriculum, which included lessons on music appreciation, theory and history. I taught about 250 students, K1 thru 5th grade, using a variety of methods depending on the topic and age of the students (e.g. visual/aural, interactive/participatory, Socratic, lecture-style, 1-on-1, small groups, and playtime).
The ways I teach demonstrate my belief that everyone deserves the best opportunity to succeed. My intuitive approach to teaching allows me to be in tune with my students. I can identify where they are musically and what they need to do to grow.
My expectations of you are necessary for a fruitful learning experience:
Please be prepared to learn. This means that you should come with an open mind and a positive attitude.
Please be on time; I consider my time and your time valuable.
Please put your cell phone and other devices away while we are in session; this will limit distractions.
Please ask any and all questions you may have; no question about your music is invalid.
I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your goals. Schedule a lesson with me soon!
